New Momentive polling: Covid-19 and Omicron
Enthusiasm for Covid-19 precautions cool as 20% of Americans believe we need to live life normally without any preventative measures
More than half (54%) of all Americans believe that the pandemic will not end regardless of whether CDC guidelines and requirements are followed, signaling the general public's growing fatigue toward preventative measures such as masks, social distancing, and limits on indoor and large gatherings.
Less than 4 in 10 (38%) Americans believe that we need to continue with strict preventative measures, with the majority believing that only some measures are needed (36%) or not needed at all (20%).
Older adults, especially Boomers, continue to be supportive of strict measures (44%), compared with GenZ (37%), Millennials (38%), and Gen Xers (37%)
Strict enforcement of Covid safety measures see highest levels of support among women (50%), Democrats (69%), lower-income Americans (49%), Americans of color (Hispanic - 45%, Black - 67%, Asian - 55%), and the vaccinated (47%).
Most Americans still view Covid as a threat, with Black and Asian Americans indicating the highest levels of concern toward the Omicron variant
The majority of adults in the U.S. still view Omicron as a threat: 87% believe Covid remains an issue for at least some, while only 8% believe Covid is currently not an issue at all.
Republicans and Independents are more likely to view Covid as a non-issue (13% and 9% respectively), compared with only 2% of Democrats.
Nearly one in five (19%) unvaccinated adults don't see Covid as a threat, compared with 5% of those who are vaccinated
Concerns over Covid are highest among Black and Asian Americans - 74% of Blacks and 69% of Asians view the coronavirus as an issue for everyone, compared with more mild views among white (56%) and Hispanic Americans (57%)
